10 years of Tribe!

Today Marks 10 Years for Tribe. Grateful is the first word that comes to my mind. Followed by proud.

We opened our doors November 21, 2011.

Our story starts with a simple idea, an idea to build a gym like no other – a new type of facility where people had access to the very best training concepts, but more importantly a place where long term friendships could be formed, with a culture so good that everyone felt welcome.

Talking to my brother Scott back in 2010 we had an aligned vision so we agreed to open a new & exciting fitness business that we hoped the Shire was going to love!

Did we get it right? I would like to think so, especially the name… but let me start this story way back at the very beginning…

Scott & I went to LA together in 2010 to see the latest trends in fitness and we quickly realised that all there was in Australia was big box gyms or small PT studios – it was then that we had the real vision for Tribe – a boutique gym where you still had plenty of variety, but with a genuine personal touch based around mateship, fun & a real support for each other.

That is when the planning really started. I remember driving past Tribe’s current site on Taren Point Road thinking, ‘what a great place for a fitness business’ – the stars were aligned and soon enough this became our new home.

Before we opened we had 7 weeks to pre-sell memberships. We started selling on October 1st 2011 and I’m proud to say we sold 667 memberships in these 7 weeks – and even prouder to say that 72 of those people are still members today.

We set a non-negotiable standard for the business way back before we started…..from day 1 we were going to have the BEST TEAM in the industry and I was going to do whatever it took to bring them on board.

We grabbed Heathy from a studio in Gymea, we ‘borrowed’ Jaymes Gleeson from Vision in North Sydney. Shari joined with me in a Jerry Maguire moment from Vision HQ and we were lucky enough to recruit Paddy – this formed part of our early foundation team.
When we named Tribe, we added ‘’Social’’ to our name and this has proven to be a big part of the special sauce on our journey.
Some of the events we have done together have been nothing short of epic, and have created moments that I know our Tribe we will never forget….

Tough Mudder and the Gold Coast Half Marathon spring to mind, as does The Mudgee Running Festival. There are some amazing moments from Mudgee and none more special and emotional than when Kelly Derwent crossed the finishing line into the arms of the whole Tribe Army.
We have been to Bali a couple of times where it was all about sun, fun, some exercise and a few lazy afternoon drinks together.
Then there’s our challenges. So many great results and again….friendships. It always comes back to the friendships for us. I like to think people first come to Tribe for the results, but stay because of the friendships. That’s pretty cool.

And then of course we have our parties, does anyone do parties quite like us?

We have done cowboys & cowgirls with a bucking bull, wild fairground nights, Hollywood movie themes and we even squeezed 400 people into Summersalt, when Scott had told them we only sold 200 tickets!

There is no question that we can party with the best of them and if anyone remembers the party we had at Tynan’s you will know what I mean.

Putting the parties and events to one side, someone asked me the other day what was the one thing that makes Tribe special – I did not even have to think about – it’s our team.

I am so proud of all of them.

We set extremely high standards and the team consistently deliver – every single day.

Our team is filled with some of the best people I KNOW.

It is impossible for me to single anyone out here. I have reserved that for our Tribe 10 Year Party this Saturday Night, Nov 27. I cannot wait for that!

To finish here, I would like to say two last things.

Carla, thank you for giving me the time, freedom, and space to build Tribe. You have backed and supported me from the start. You are a rock for me. For us. For our family. How did I get so lucky?

To all the Tribers. Tribe exists because of you and this is something our team will never forget. We love the banter you have amongst each other, and we love to get involved too.

All our decisions are centered around asking ourselves ‘’What is the best outcome for you guys?’’ – and we do this to earn the right to have you as members.

10 amazing years behind us and now it’s all about the next decade together.

Thank YOU for being part of our Tribe journey.
